Homecoming 2009 is sure to be remembered for years to come. The anticipation of the games played was encouraged with the exotic theme of “Hawaiian—Surfin’ to a Victory!” The week before spirit week achieved its goal of student participation. Monday’s theme was lei and color day, Tuesday was sunglasses day, followed by Wednesday’s theme of beach day, Thursday was music day, and finally red/black/purple day on Friday.
Grades nine through twelve all had the job to create a float on a wagon to show off their school spirit and get the chance to win money for their class. On Friday from 1:00 until the end of school, classes were given time to work on their creations which were judged before the places were given out during the half time of the football game. In the end, freshmen took first, followed by the senior class, next were the sophomores, and finally the junior class.
Friday after school, the Lady Diamondback’s loaded up and went up to Valier to take on the Lady Panthers. After a long struggle, the Lady DiamondBacks took one game off the Panthers with scores of 25-11 Valier, 25-20 Valier, 25-27 Dutton/Brady, and 25-19 Valier. While the high school volleyball team was away, the junior high team took on Vaughn in Dutton. The B squad easily took Vaughn in two sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-20. The A squad struggled a little however as they were only able take a game off Vaughn with finals scores of 25-23 Dutton/Brady, 22-25 Vaughn, and 17-25 Vaughn. Friday night grades seven through twelve came together to make many long-lasting memories at a bon fire held by the Dutton Dump sight. A large fire burned from around 9:30 to 11:00 P.M. creating many laughs and good times as planned.
Saturday morning, games kicked off at 9:30 with the junior high team vs. the Chinook Sugar Beaters. After a hard struggle for the Sugar Beaters, the Titans brought out yet another win and a score of 42-20. The Varsity team also had no problem taking down the Sugar Beaters, which ended with a final score of 43-13. After the football team’s victories, everyone moved into the gym to watch the double-header volleyball match up between the Lady DiamondBacks and the Hear Butte Warriors. The DiamondBacks easily took all six sets off the Warriors with scores of 25-13, 25-8, and 25-12 in the first game. The second game’s scores compiled 25-17, 25-11, and 25-21. After all of the victories of the weekend, students were ready to get their groove on at the school dance from 9:00 to midnight in the school cafeteria. All participants had a fantastic time at homecoming and are surely looking forward to next years.
